What we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted. Last updated 16 October 2026.

Who is responsible

RECORD is a trading name of Troubles Studio LLC, which is the data controller for everything described here and the seller of everything sold here. Write to hello@record.ink about any of it.

The waitlist

If you give us your email address, we store four things: the address itself, the IP address the request came from, the exact sentence you agreed to, and the times you signed up, confirmed and — if you do — unsubscribed.

The sentence you agreed to is currently: “I agree to receive email from RECORD about early access and edition releases. I can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.” We store the wording and its version rather than a yes/no, so that what you agreed to is a matter of record and not of memory.

The IP address is kept because it is evidence that a real request was made, and because it lets us stop the form being used to mail somebody repeatedly who never asked.

Our lawful basis is your consent. You are on the list as soon as you sign up, including if you had left it before. We send one email to say so, and every email we send has a link to leave the list.

Buying a poster

Checkout is handled by Shopify, who take your payment and delivery details under their own privacy policy. We never see your card.

Choosing a delivery country stores one cookie, record_ship_to, so the site can price in the right currency when you come back. It holds a country code and nothing else.

Counting visits

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, so we know which pages are read and how people find the site. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.

For each page view it records the page, the site that linked you here, any campaign tags in the link (the utm_ ones, and we remove everything else from the address before it is sent), your approximate location (country, region and city), and your browser, operating system and type of device. It does not store your IP address. A visit is recognised by a code made from the request, which is discarded after 24 hours, so visits cannot be linked from one day to the next, and we only ever see totals.

We also measure how fast pages load, with Vercel Speed Insights. On the first page you open it records how long the page took to appear and to respond to you, the page itself (with everything but the utm_ campaign tags removed from the address, as above), your connection speed, your browser, operating system and type of device, and your country. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, does not store your IP address, and cannot link one visit to another.

What we do not do

There are no tracking pixels and no advertising on this site. Visiting a page sets no cookies at all.

We do not sell or share your address with anyone, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.

How long we keep it

  • An address that is never confirmed is deleted 30 days after the last confirmation email we sent it. The deletion runs automatically every night.
  • A confirmed address is kept for 24 months after we last hear from you — a link you follow from one of our emails, or an order you place — and then deleted.
  • If you unsubscribe, we stop mailing you immediately and keep only the record that you asked us to stop, so that we do not mail you again by accident.
  • If you sign up again after unsubscribing, nothing changes until you confirm from the new email; we keep that request, with the sentence you agreed to, beside the record of your unsubscribe. A request you never confirm is deleted 30 days after we sent the email for it.
  • If you ask us to delete you, we delete you.

Who else handles it

We use a small number of services to run the site, and each of them handles some of this data on our instructions:

  • Vercel — hosting, and counting visits
  • Neon — the database the waitlist is stored in
  • Resend — sending the confirmation and announcement emails
  • ImprovMX — forwarding mail sent to hello@record.ink
  • Shopify — checkout and payment, if you buy something

All of them process data in the United States. If you are in the UK or the EU, that means your information is transferred outside it.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or the EU you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict what we do with it, and to receive a copy in a portable form. You can withdraw your consent at any time, and doing so does not affect anything done before you did.

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link that works in one click and needs no reply from us. For anything else, write to hello@record.ink and we will do it.

If you think we have handled your information badly, you can complain to your data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that affects what we do with information already given to us, we will email the people it affects rather than quietly changing the page.
